2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently developing the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.

Management Shift Comes After Lukewarm Reception

The new appointee steps into the leadership position at the development studio following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last autumn.

Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer informed employees about this organizational change through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had indicated the necessity for a clearer direction.

The president stated that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a renewed vision, aiming to satisfy community desires.

A Pattern of Strategic Recruitment

The news mirrors a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they brought on an industry veteran from Blizzard to work on the beloved franchise studio Cloud Chamber.

The player input from last autumn’s the game playtest was informative. It affirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had work to do. It highlighted the need for a more distinct vision.

The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the input to heart and reimagined Project ETHOS with a refreshed goal - one that’s ready to deliver on its potential to our fans.

His guidance and experience in the competitive gaming genre is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and leading some of the most well-known titles in gaming, for example Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.

The appointee currently serves in the role of senior developer and head of production at Respawn Entertainment for their flagship title. Brinkman earlier was employed at major gaming companies in multiple production roles on the Call of Duty series, and, earlier in his career, had periods at 2K and Electronic Arts.

The upcoming game was announced in last year in conjunction with a public demo. Then, 31st Union described the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting step forward on the style."
